PUPPIES receive the same diet as the adults with the exception to the morning RMB (raw meaty bone) meal. We replace with the following....
3-8 weeks : ground chicken with bone 8-10 weeks : 4-7 chicken necks 10-16 weeks : Chicken Backs 16+ weeks : same as adults
|
|
|
|
Feeding amounts per dog......2-3% of the dogs weight is a good start and depending on activity level. Our boys eat 3%, our girls 2%. Puppies can eat up to 10% of their growing weight. Your eyes and fingers will be your best indicators.
Example : our 50 lb males x 3% = 1.5 lbs or 24 ounces daily (our males tend to be harder keepers than the females) our 45 lb females x 2% = 0.9 lbs or 14.4 ounces

Ground Meats / Beef Organ Mix - thaw meat mix in a bowl.........In a blender mix eggs w/shell, veggies & Apple with core removed. Add in powdered kelp, alfalfa & Ester C ...blend completely to thick liquid texture. Pour over meat and mix thoroughly. Divide among the dogs.
RMB (Raw Meaty Bone) - any non-weight bearing bone is an excellent choice. We will often use chicken leg quarters, chicken backs, turkey necks, pork neck bone, pork ribs, etc.
Meat sources we like to feed........chicken, turkey, beef, elk, rabbit, lamb, fish, pork. Green Tripe & Organs should also be included 1 - 2 times per week.
Recreational Bones - these are for chewing purposes only and are not meant for consumption. We use the following.... 1.) small femur pieces - cut into smaller pieces so the dogs can get the marrow. 2.) Mixed knuckles bones 3.) Whole Shank bones with knuckle & knee attached.
Bi-Weekly or Monthly Fasting - many people will fast their dogs 1x per week, we however only fast our dogs 1x every two weeks or once monthly. During the fasting day we will give a fresh recreational bone to keep them busy and less focused on the missed meals. Fasting is a healthy way for the body to rid toxins and is very cleansing to their systems whether fed raw or kibble.
We encourage a 24 hour fasting when switching from kibble to a raw diet. Note : we do not fast puppies until 6 - 8 months of age.
